Honda is sunsetting their only EV and their best car.

Honda will apparently stop production of the Honda Prologue after the 2026 model year, even though it’s in the top 10 best-selling EVs in the US. This also means they’re killing a great car.

What I like about the Prologue is that it doesn’t try to be anything else but a nice, useful car. Its designer didn’t think that because it’s an EV they had to try to turn it into a spaceship, an abstract sculpture or an iPad. It’s just an electric car. It looks sleek and understated, like a Honda. It doesn’t try to experiment and innovate in the wrong place. There’s CarPlay, actual mirrors, physical buttons…

And then it’s actually pretty nice. The exterior mirrors dim, there are 360º surround view cameras for parking, LiDAR based adaptive cruise control. There’s a HUD and heated and ventilated seats.

There’s nothing like an electric power train and the Prologue’s, based on a GM platform, is pretty good. It’s not the fastest, but it doesn’t have to be. It was just a normal EV on a market full of gas cars and annoyingly quirky EVs. It’s the EV for people who want an EV without the “this is an EV, lesser mortals!” sign that seems to come with other EVs. I think it’s the most no-nonsense option on the market, striking a good balance between usability and still nice enough to actually want it.

I think, it’s actually a better car than the Chevy Blazer EV it’s based on. Honda did most things right here, yet they’re killing it. The Prologue being the among the best selling EV in the US I suppose isn’t enough.

Either way. I’ll keep driving it, but I’m a bit sad that there aren’t more of these made, while Honda instead switches to making more polluting gas cars again.
